Basically, some of the Makefiles contain Gnu Make recursive rules;
I think tlyu is dealing.
In the meanwhile, use gmake

I just fixed config/, which is where DEJAFLAGS was being
assigned with ":=", so cvs update that file. That is the only usage
of := I found in the the config directory. If you don't have any
other problems, report that here and close the PR.
