Subject: Install problem
When attempting to run the installer for KfW 2.6 on my Win98SE system I
get a fatal error message "Kerberos requires Internet Explorer 5.01 or
later". Aside from the fact that it probably doesn't require that at
all, I have IE 6.0 installed on my system. I've even tried the
installation while running IE, but get the same fatal error. I
previously have had KfW 2.1 and 2.5 and I removed both but still get the
error. I've reinstalled 2.1 and it's running fine. I suspect that this
is not really Kerberos's fault, but rather the installer.

I've successfully installed on my WinXP system at work.

RT-Send-Cc:
This file is produced when IPHLPAPI.DLL cannot be found on
your machine. This file is installed with IE 5.01 or higher
and is required for KFW 2.6.

This is not a bug.

IPHLPAPI.DLL is present in the Windows/System directory, right where
it's supposed to be. I tried this on 2 different W98SE systems, both of
which have the dll where it's supposed to be. And both systems have IE
6.0 installed. Any other suggestion?

Actually, IPHLPAPI.DLL should be in the Windows\System32 directory.
It is a 32-bit DLL not a 16-bit DLL. If you place a copy in SYSTEM32
the install will complete.

Sorry, but that doesn't do it either. Actually, although a 32-bit
extension, the proper place for the dll *is* system, not system32 for Win95
through WinME. Given that you thought it should be in system32 (which is
where it does indeed belong for NT/2K/XP) perhaps that points to a logic
error in the install package when it looks for it (or something else)?

Howard:

I am happy to report that I have been able to test and address all of the
compatibility problems with KFW 2.6 running on Windows 98 through ME.
Please try the latest test installer which can be downloaded from

    http://web.mit.edu/~jaltman/Public/Leash/MITKerberosForWindows-2-6-1.exe

We hope to make a formal release in the next few days.
