Subject: Network Identity Manager 3.1 crashes
Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2007 14:45:14 +0100

Hi,

We are currently installing Kerberos for Windows 3.1 on our client computers and most of the installations has went well. On some computers though the Network Identity Manager crashes for some reason. How do you want me to proceed, what log files do you need, crash files, debug info?

Regards

Andreas

kfw bugs go to a different address. kfw-bugs@mit.edu

I will move this ticket to the correct queue.

Preferably I would like to receive the NIM log that you can activate
from the General options page and a crash dump.

An explanation of what was happening when the crash occurred would be
helpful as well.

What plug-ins other than the krb5 and krb4 that come with NIM are installed?

Hi,

We are upgrading to Kerberos for Windows 3.1 and some clients have problems
with the Network Identity Manager, which crashed after obtaining a ticket.

The Network identity manager works fine (i.e. does not crash) until you get
a ticket using New credentials. A second after obtaining the credentials,
the Network Identity Manager crashes, every single time.

We are running Windows XP SP2 and have AFS client 1.5.13a and 1.5.14. Please
see the attached crash dump file and log file (the crash dump is from a
system running AFS 1.5.14.

The problem seems to be with AFSAUTHENT.DLL.

Then this is an OpenAFS bug and the problem report should go to openafs-
bugs@openafs.org.

One more question. Did you have the beta AFS plug-in installed on the
machine prior to installing OpenAFS 1.5.13/14 ?

If so, the problem is most likely that the wrong version of the OpenAFS
plug-in is still registered on the machine. The beta AFS plug-in is
not compatible.

Looking at the dump file. You have a mixture of the 1.5.1400
afscred.dll (AFS plug-in for NIM) and 1.4.101 OpenAFS libraries
(afsauthent.dll, afspthread.dll, afsrpc.dll, afsprocmgmt.dll,
libafsconf.dll).

The AFS plug-in for NIM is not compatible with OpenAFS 1.4.x. How did
the 1.5.14 AFS plug-in for NIM from the OpenAFS 1.5.14 distribution get
on this machine?

No wonder its crashing on you.

I am resolving this ticket.
